Courage is a deep-seated, fundamental human competence that leverages our other abilities.  It invokes within us our absolute best selves. Gus Lee

I’ve been reading an incredible book by Gus Lee titled Courage: The Backbone Of Leadership. It’s a great resource for anyone who would like to lead with purpose and integrity.

Today, in the second installment of a series on courage, I’d like to talk a bit about courage as a priority.

Two examples of character traits that can be used in a negative manner without the presence of courage are consistency and generosity. I can be consistently cruel or lazy if I lack the courage to have integrity in my behaviour. I can also be generous without being responsible if I lack the courage to say, “No” to causes I want to give to or to purchases I desire to make that would leave me short on paying my bills. I need the courage to be balanced in the way I spend so that I am sowing seed into good causes while at the same time being financially responsible.
