On December 5, 1987, an unremarkable life became a horrific, twisted nightmare. While installing Christmas lights I fell from the roof of my home, shattered three vertebrae in my neck and damaged my spinal cord. I was paralyzed below my chest.

God reminds us daily of His eternal vision and purpose for each of us. I wanted to quit life, but God showed me a bigger plan. God continued to create good within the horror of a broken life. I recovered, returned to work as a junior high school teacher and gradually discovered that God could bring richness and meaning even to life in a wheelchair.

As I rediscovered hope, I re-connected with a lady I had loved and lost twenty years earlier. As God helped me to discover meaning within a broken body, He also inspired me to recognize the significance of this nearly forgotten relationship. After resisting for a long time, I located her and sent a simple email. She responded with a single line: IS THIS WHO I THINK IT IS? From that enigmatic reply grew the rebirth of a dream we thought had vanished.
